Fast DMV Visit. What?!
I just had the fastest experience at the DMV I have ever had in my life. I needed to renew my enhanced driver’s license, something that apparently has to be done every four years. Not ideal. Before I went, I filled out their “pre-application” online which gathered a bunch of information I would have otherwise provided at the desk, and in return I received a confirmation code. When I got to the DMV, it had moved to a new building I hadn’t been to before. I went straight to one of the digital kiosks and selected that I was there for an enhanced driver’s license and gave my phone number. As soon as my ticket printed out my number was announced and I found the desk number I was supposed to go to. I gave the confirmation code I printed out and my expired license. The clerk took me around the counter to check my vision and take my photo. Then we went back to the counter where I reviewed my info, signed, and paid. Then I was done. The whole thing took… maybe five minutes. Wow!
I have to think the pre-application did most of the heavy lifting. By the time I arrived, there was nothing left to collect — just verify and process. If your DMV offers it, do it.
